Social Media and Bollywood

Posted on

Bollywood has finally woken up to the power of social media. Films have started making their presence on twitter, facebook and youtube. Yash Raj Films (YRF), India's biggest production house has understood the power of the internet and taken it up to the social media. Its not only but Dharma Productions too. Both have their properties placed on the social bandwagon and its quite interesting to see how they have made use of it effectively.

Facebook has become the biggest platform for production houses for their brands. Many Production Houses are on these sites like UTV, Yash Raj Films, PVR Pictures, Dharma Production, Eros Multimedia etc. Films promoted on facebook are the upcoming Bipasha Basus Dum Maaro Dum and . etc. Some Groups/communities have many numbers. For example: Yash Raj Films official page has more than 2lakh fans. recently came up on facebook and has 12 thousand members. What's interesting about these pages are that the brands have taken the pain to interact with the fans. Yash Raj runs contests on its pages while giving away interesting autographed goodies.

If a biggie makes a benchmark then others are surely there to follow him. Salman Khans movie ‘Dabaang' has been made available for free viewing on their YouTube channel. Yash Raj films and Dharma Productions followed them by releasing their own production movies in their respective yoututbe channels.

Their you tube channels have full movies published on their respective channels. Tashan, Saathiya, Qurbaan etc:

The production houses have also mastered their twitter accoints. Quotes, Jokes, Opinions. Exclusive release videos, news, contests, you name it and its there. Customised background images, top bollywood stars as followers.

Yash Raj Films and Dhrama Productions have done some commendable job on the social media as of now and both of them are trying innovative ways to grab netballs..whoops! eyeballs I must say. Post Script: Dharma Productions had a really successful run on social media with their campaign of I Hate Luv Storys. Check the pages out and get an idea of social media marketing.
