It was while doing her college that she acted in some of the plays. Through Abana (1960), a Sindhi film, she came into the world of films. Anita, Saaya and Woh Kaun Thi? were horror movies, for performing in which she received good comments. Her remarkable and captivating enactment in the films Aarzoo, Mere Mehboob, Inteqaam and Ek Phool Do Maali furthered her already successful career. She became the nominee in category of Best Actress (Filmfare Awards) in 1964 for Woh Kaun Thi? and for Waqt (1965).

Geeta Mera Naam featured her as an actress and a filmmaker in 1974. She quit movies when she married R K Nayyar. Unfortunately they were not blessed with a baby. Her connection with films was not easily cut off. After a few years, when Sadhana and Nayyar founded a production company, she was seen to be actively taking part in making films. She was uninterested in performing supporting roles, so she refused all acting offers.
